Charles H. Hollinger is an avid outdoorsman, nature lover and plein air painter. “I try to bring forth my understanding and, more importantly, my love of light and my awe of the natural world through the relationship of warm versus cool colors, light versus shadow, and contrasting shapes. I try to portray an intimate feeling of place, as if you had just stumbled onto an undiscovered location. ” He completed his undergraduate at St. Lawrence University and he received his Masters in Fine Arts from Western Connecticut State University. He paints in oils on canvas and board with smooth brush strokes, using atmospheric perspective and muted colors to draw viewers into a motionless and tranquil landscape. Recently his artistic exploration has expanded to works with graphite, charcoal and wax medium on paper. " The process is less about the subject matter at hand but more about bringing my understanding of surface in painting to the drawing medium."
